The book describes a research that was carried out to assess the micronutrient nutritional levels in two of the major staple foods (maize and beans) produced by small-holder farmers in some parts of Morogoro, Tanzania.
The research shows the micronutrient status of small-holder farm soils and the nutritional quality of the crops produced on these soils.
It further shows how the nutritional quality of the crops grown can change after micronutrient soil fertilisation.
The results of the study provide insight on the micronutrient levels of food being consumed not only in Morogoro but also in the rest of Tanzania and the Sub-Saharan Africa.
Matema Imakumbili is a soil scientist.
She holds an MSc in Soil Science and Land Management (SUA, Tanzania) and a BSc in Agricultural Science (UNZA, Zambia).
She is currently an AGRA PhD fellow in Soil and Water Management at SUA.
Her research interests are in soil nutrient dynamics in small-holder farming systems in Sub-Saharan Africa.
