The book described the skills needed in the 21st century world of work and the demands it is making on education.
Such demands call for changes in the roles of teachers, students, and emphasize the use of alternative assessment.
With alternative assessment, teachers can be better informed on what learners can actually do with acquired knowledge, skills, and desired attitude/values in creative and innovative ways.
It also discussed standard-based curriculum, backward design model of curriculum development, different forms of alternative assessment in relation to the revised Bloom’s taxonomy as efforts towards helping teachers better plan curriculum and assessment that can result to students’ ‘understanding’ as opposed to simply ‘knowing’.
Some current theories of learning supporting the use of e-assessment in terms of active participation and interaction in the learning and assessment processes for authentic learning are highlighted.
The book also discussed the benefits and major issues in the use of alternative assessment, stressing the use of e-assessment formats to make students’ thinking visible.

is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Port Harcourt, Department of Curriculum Studies and Educational Technology.
Her first degree was in Education and English.
Her masters and Ph.D were in Educational Technology.
She teaches Educational Technology at both the undergraduate and postgraduate level.
