This is my first fable prose I have written – a story of a retrogressive nation.
The socio-economic, socio-political and socio-religious retardations are not the only obstacles that retard a nation in every aspect but lack of common interest, common goal and common purpose amongst its various regions, left alone the crave for political, economic and social power by all means necessary.
I have observed with a keen interest the impact and place of a cliché mostly used by most Nigerians as “One Nation” or “One Nigeria” to be junky comment or a gimmick, to mean one thing only – divergence of the reality of “Collectivism” to that of “Individualism” – a perversion of a collective idea and identity of a ‘united nation’.
The Benon Republic (birds) is a replica of such a myopic nation.
The Benon Republic operates a bicameral system of government – the Right-Wing Deck (Chamber) representing the higher birds and the Left-Wing Deck (Chamber) representing the lower birds.
The Avesdome is a convergent point of all the Benon Kingdom and even from the Diaspora and where all legislative matters are deliberated called the Gathering.
It was mostly characterized by the dominance of the higher birds..
