Carbon Steel, primarily an alloy of Carbon and Iron, has over the years evolved into a commonly used material which is widely applied in various engineering products such as in buildings, ships, automobiles, machines and appliances.
Low carbon steel particularly, due to its unique properties such as strength, toughness, ductility and malleability is often used in many applications one of which is in structural beams of buildings and bridges.
Considering the delicate nature of such application of which its failure in service could result in fatal consequences e.g loss of lives and properties due to a building or bridge collapse, it is imperative quality standards are met in the production of this widely-used material.
The book therefore, provides a detailed and holistic approach to quality control of this material in order to give a rounded and accurate assessment of its suitability.
The analysis herein which involves case studies of three carbon steel samples from selected steel companies in Nigeria will be beneficial to professionals in construction industries, researchers, quality assurance experts or any individual who is interested in or utilizes carbon steels.
Iyiola obtained his Bachelor's degree in Materials Engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria.
His keen interest in abating failure of materials in service inspired this work focused on low carbon steel.
He is also a seasoned project manager who is PMI-PMP certified.
