The diminishing provision of services by the state, coupled with the escalating numbers of Orphans and Vulnerable Children in Zimbabwe, represents a crucial concern for Non-Governmental Organisations.
Interviews, observation and documents were used for data collection.
Notwithstanding the generally valid critique of the imperialist role of Non-Governmental Organisations as agents of multi-lateral institutions, the repressive despotism and the consequent socio-economic crisis in Zimbabwe has necessitated Save the Children to play a prominent role in caring for Orphans and Vulnerable Children through educational assistance, legal protection, HIV/AIDS mitigation programs, psychosocial support and material support.
Garutsa is currently a PhD fellow at the University of Fort Hare, South Africa.Her current study focuses on Indigenous Knowledge Systems, gender dynamics interface and its implications on Food Security.
Her other areas of interests include rural development, child development, civil soceities , HIV and AIDS.
