There are eight parts of speech in the English language: noun, pronoun, verb, adjective, adverb, preposition, conjunction, and interjection.
The part of speech indicates how the word functions in meaning as well as grammatically within the sentence.Other parts of speech, Articles, Determiners, Gerunds, Interjections.Syntax is a form of grammar.
It is concerned primarily with word order in a sentence and with the agreement of words when they are used together.
So it is, in a sense, acting as a kind of 'police officer' for the way in which sentences are constructed.
English is a language that has a structure known as SVO.
Inflection noun (GRAMMAR) a change in or addition to the form of a word that shows a change in the way it is used in sentences: If you add the plural inflection "-s" to "dog" you get "dogs".
In the present tense we say "he sits", because the third person singular inflection of the verb is -s.
