Anti tumor activity of XAP on human gastric cancer cells
Apoptosis induction is an important mechanism in chemotherapy and the deeper understanding of apoptosis regulation in normal and neoplastic cells is a right target for the development of more selective and efficacious therapeutic agents.
Xiaoaiping (XAP), extracted from Marsdenia tenacissima (Asclepiadaceae) is a Chinese medicinal plant used traditionally to treat cough and asthma.
Our study has demonstrated that XAP can significantly inhibit the proliferation of both cell lines (HCC BEL-7402 and Human gastric cancer SGC-7901) in vitro.
Xiaoaiping also showed significant inhibition of human gastric cancer SGC-7901cells transplanted in nude mice.
Molecular analysis revealed that XAP arrested the cell cycle progression at S phase and induced apoptosis through caspase activation.
