It is the book you will turn to for greater understanding of factors associated with TB TREATMENT DEFAULT.THE book incorporates why clients who contract TB, default treatment.It also looks at some of the side effects of the drugs that influence the decision of the client and how the health personnel can minimise these.The main reasons or common factors for defaulting TB treatment whether individual reside in urban or rural area is highlighted.
Adequate counseling and education of patients and close relatives on TB and the necessity for prolonged treatment may help prevent treatment default.Prevention approaches icluede,strengthening existing TB treatment default tracing mechanism,conducting in –service training of health workers on TB control and management.Interventions packages such as active supervisory visits, home visits, psychological counseling and nutritional support should be in place to help in the reduction of TB treatment default.
Junior Mzengi is a Lecturer in the Department of Health Sciences at the Zimbabwe Open University.She holds a Masters in Public Health and Bsc in Nursing Science obtained at the University OF Zimbabwe and Zimbabwe Open University respectively.
