Tapiwa was born in 1964 in Gutu, Zimbabwe.
He holds a Masters’ in Educational Psychology from Great Zimbabwe University.
He taught at various schools in Masvingo Province in Zimbabwe, before lecturing at Masvingo Teachers' College.
Currently he is a Lecturer in the Faculty of Education at the same University.
