As teenagers in Lagos, Ifemelu and Obinze fall in love.

Their Nigeria is under military dictatorship, and people are fleeing the country if they can. The self-assured Ifemelu departs for America. Né en 1977, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie a grandi dans la ville universitaire de Nsukka.

Elle a quitté le Nigeria à dix-neuf ans pour faire des études aux États-Unis et partage désormais son temps entre les deux pays.

Son premier roman, L'Hibiscus pourpre, publié en 2003, est couronné en 2005, par le prix du meilleur premier roman du Commonwealth. L'Autre Moitié du soleil (2006), son second roman, porte sur la guerre du Biafra. Elle écrit aussi un recueil de nouvelles, Autour de ton cou (2009).
