Luque-Fernández is Post-doc fellow in the CIDER –Centre for Infectious Diseases Epidemiology and Research- UCT University, Cape Town.

He worked as Public Health Researcher and Epidemiologist in Europe, as a field epidemiologist in several African countries and recently with WHO (Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network) in Haiti.
